I didn't think it was possible to find an area that I could say was Heaven on Earth, but how wrong can someone be. St. Just in Roseland is this hidden gem, deep in the valley just a short drive from St. Mawes, near Falmouth in Cornwall.
It was our Golden Wedding Anniversary and we wanted to celebrate in Cornwall as it has always held special memories for us both. We had been very lucky with the weather and decided to go to St. Just in Roseland, as it was recommended by a friend as the most beautiful place.
We made our way to the King Harry Ferry where you have to cross the river to get to St. Mawes, and as we travelled about 10 minutes we noticed a sign, 'St. Just in Roseland turn right to the church'. This we did, parked the car and began to walk down a steep hill, everything was so peaceful. You walk down into the valley surrounded by beautiful trees and plants, the birds were singing and you couldn't help but sigh. We followed the little path towards St. Just Church passing small graves of members of the community that had lived in the area, also a pretty little garden of children's headstones. It sounds a bit of a contradiction in terms to say how lovely it was, but it was so peaceful and the flowers gave off a sweet scent and some of the children's graves had small toys that had been left. But in a strange way you didn't feel sad, you felt at peace.
We carried on following the little path and just around the bend was the Church, it was so pretty with the view across the creek with little row boats just lying on their side as the tide had gone out The sight of this just took my breath away, for all I could hear was the birdsong and see the beauty of this place, it was unbelievable, I didn't want to move, I wanted to capture and hold this feeling forever. But we did continue to move round the right side of the church and as we walked for a couple of minutes, still keeping my eyes on this beautiful scene in front of me, I noticed a row boat on the land that was up-turned, I went over and perched myself on the boat to continue my view of the trees, the creek and the church to my left. A butterfly decided to sit next to me to my amazement and at that moment I felt I had been transported back in time 2000 years ago, where it is said that Yeshua Ben Joseph [Jesus] arrived at this creek in a small row boat with Joseph of Arimathia - his uncle, who was a tin merchant and had a successful business and would often come to trade in this area. I also understood Melchior, one of the members of The Magi [Three Wise Men] had lived in St. Just in Roseland for the first 20 years of his life before he started the epic journey of following the star to find the Messiah. In a strange way I could sense Melchior's energy around me as I sat on this little boat looking down the creek.
To say it was a spiritual journey for me is an under-statement, I have never felt such love and so much inner peace before. It is truly Heaven on Earth. I also knew there was a Sacred Well not too far from where I was sitting, where Yeshua carried out many blessings; I was eager to visit this site. We moved reluctantly from the creek and looked for the Sacred Well and just a few feet away I heard running water, I turned left and there in front of me was the Sacred Well. As I approached, the hairs on my arms began to rise and I had tingles all over my body - Oh my! something magical touched my heart; I am sure it was the love of Yeshua from 2000 years ago and his aura or energy has remained here for all to find.
What more can I say but do try to visit St. Just in Roseland, you won't be disappointed, but you will feel the inner peace and love in your heart that will stay with you forever.
